(NIGERIA) Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) yesterday resumed their suspended indefinite nationwide strike, just as its national president, Comrade Mustapha Marwan, indicted Accountant General of the Federation and his counterparts at the state level for being responsible for the industrial action.
Our correspondents reported that the judicial workers’ strike has paralysed court activities in most states, as executives of JUSUN went round to ensure total compliance with their earlier directives that all courts should be under lock and keys.
Addressing newsmen yesterday, in Abuja, Comrade Marwan categorically attributed the closure of courts to the failure of the federal and various state governments to implement the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which had restrained the executive arm from holding on to fund meant for the judiciary.
With the indefinite strike in operation, the Federal High Court, located at the Central Business District, the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and most of the FCT High Courts visited by Newswatch Times were under lock and key.
In Lagos the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, the National Industrial Court, also in Ikoyi, the Lagos High Courts in Ikeja and Igbosere, including all the Magistrates Courts were shut down.
At the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, the Deputy Chief Registrar (DCR) of the court, Bello Okandeji, was sighted urging judicial workers to go back to their houses peacefully, apparently to avoid any form of chaos.
Also at the National Industrial Court, it was gathered that court activities were truncated as members of the union were seen instructing workers to stop activities in compliance with the industrial action.
