It is a common phenomenon in Nigeria, that when political office holders are seeking re-election or when fresh bloods in politics are seeking to be elected, they pay homage to the monarch of the community they intend to campaign.
It is however not surprising to hear, that incumbent Nigerian President and flag bearer of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday paid a visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi obviously to seek the monarch's support.
But the worry hear is that would Sanusi sincerely give support to Jonathan's candidacy in view of the fact that same Jonathan sacked the monarch when he held sway at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over allegation of financial recklessness.
He even asked the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria to further investigate him.
But at the Emir's palace, President Jonathan revealed that he was in the palace, to get the royal father's blessing for his re-election bid.
The PDP presidential aspirant also informed the monarch that he was in his palace to formally introduce himself, Vice President Namadi Sambo and other PDP candidates in the election.
Jonathan said, "I am here to seek your royal blessing and to reassure the people of Kano that the PDP is totally committed to developing the country."
In responding, the Emir said, "Democracy is all about giving people the chance to make their choice and so, there is no need for violence."
