INEC: Checking electoral malpractice

When news filtered into the air that Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), introduced what it termed card readers
for voters’ accreditation so as to verify the rightful owners of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), the need to arrive at a conclusion that the commission is standing by its promise of ensuring a credible 2015 poll became imperative regardless of what it takes.

Atleast with this development, Nigerians can go to bed with the assurance that all is well with the coming 2015 elections.

The commission today through its Electoral Officer for Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara, Abdulganiyu Bello, revealed that the device would avert impersonation and voting by proxy during the general elections.

According to him, "Let’s target peaceful electioneering; I want to urge politicians not to cause any disruption because you believe a particular place is a stronghold of opponents.

"The result in that place might be helpful in the eventual outcome."
