(NIGERIA) The Federal Government has directed that more troops be dispatched to Borno State to enable the military recapture Baga and surrounding communities now under the control of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Coordinator of the National Security Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, said the soldiers and other arms of security personnel have already been mobilized with new equipment and are working hard to ensure complete liberation of strategic towns and villages close to Baga.
Mike Omeri, who is also the Director General of the National Orientation Agency [NOA], disclosed at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja that the Armed Forces have assembled sufficient men and equipment in an area close to Baga and would soon launch a counter attack on the occupied territories held by the insurgents to retake the areas.
Omeri refused to state when the military will launch the counter attack operation or the number of soldiers heading to Baga but, he added, “As you are aware, full details of military operations cannot be discussed until the appropriate time. Be assure however that security forces are working hard to ensure the full liberation of strategic towns and other places close to it.
“Equally, government is constantly reviewing the situation with regards to the fight against insurgency in order to improve logistics requirement and support for the security forces to enable them defeat the insurgents”.
The coordinator stated that apart from re-equipping and boosting the manpower of the army, the government has also intensified consultations with serving and retired security chiefs, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to enable them contribute their varied experiences to the ongoing war against insurgency.
He urged Nigerians, especially the nation’s leaders and elders, to emulate friendly countries who have thrown their weight and support behind Nigeria’s effort to defeat the terrorists rather than criticizing the government and the military.
The director also made references to the recent bomb blast in France and appealed to Nigerian politicians to emulate the good example of their counterparts in the European country who rallied support around their governments without harsh words of criticism.
At the briefing, Omeri also stated that the Federal Government has not given up hope on the rescue of the abducted Chibok Government Secondary Schoolgirls even though the rescue effort adopted since the kidnap saga has not yielded any positive result.
Speaking on Internally Displaced Persons located in several parts of the country, Omeri said the government has directed the National Emergency Management Agency [NEMA] to register every displaced person to enable them get relief materials and other forms of assistance to ameliorate their suffering. http://www.mynewswatchtimesng.com/fg-deploys-troops-recapture-baga-others/
