As Nigerians prepare to take a decision as to who governs them for the next four years, one question that kept ringing is how prepared is the Federal Government (FG) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), towards ensuring a credible election come February 14, 2015.
While it is believed in some quarters that all is set for the coming election, other school of thought are calling for the suspension of the 2015 election. For instance, Senior pastor of the Later Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare is of the strong contention, that in view of the numerous insurgent attack in some part of country, elections should be suspended and a transition government formed, so that the numerous challenges confronting the country can first the dealt with head on.
But despite agitations being expressed as to the conduct of the election, Nigeria's Senate President, David Mark posited that the country
is adequately prepared for a peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible polls.
Speaking with the United States of America (USA) Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle in Abuja, Mark argued that the electoral umpire, INEC is now equipped with necessary tools and personnel for the polls.
In the words of the Senate President, "Nigerians are ready for the elections. Our citizens are now more conscious of their rights and indeed the values of their votes.
"What we expect from our friends and the international community is support and cooperation. Security challenge is there but we have intensified efforts and our security operatives are now equipped to contain the situation.
"So far, Nigerians are desirous of a peaceful conduct of the elections. I’m sure the outcome would be cheering to all."
