When it emerged on Tuesday that the convoy of the presidential candidate of Nigeria's ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Goodluck Jonathan was attacked in Katsina State by suspected hoodlums, the thinking in many quarters is that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), would have been responsible.
This thought may be in view of the hot exchange of words between the two contending parties as a result of forthcoming February 14, 2015 presidential election.
But the contrary seemed to have been proven, as the opposition APC today condemned the stoning of the campaign convoy of President Jonathan in the state.
The APC in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed argued that violence of any kind is totally unacceptable to the party.
The APC scribe added that President Jonathan
should be free to campaign anywhere in the country without hinderance.
According to Muhammed, "We consider election as a celebration of democracy, not a do-or-die affair.
"Whether or not one agrees with the campaign message of any party, engaging in violence negates the very essence of democracy and should be condemned by all."
