Prompt release of voter register?

The call on Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), for a complete release of Voter Register tomorrow for all the states of the federation to the best of my knowledge, is a call in the interest of all Nigerians and moves meant towards ensuring the conduct of free, fair and credible 2015 elections.

To be specific, the opposition APC's National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, revealed that the party would monitor closely the distribution of even the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) as required by law; a move I can confidently describe as positive.

Mohammed said, "If on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, the date INEC plans to make public the Voter Register, that of the South-West and other key states are held back, our party will reject whatever lists comes later.

"Anything short of a complete release of the Voter Register will raise the suspicion that some forces are working to manipulate the register of some states where the opposition has strong followership."

I think the APC should not preempt INEC and issue threats that are unnecessary, when the Voter Register has not been released.

Even if the commission is not able to accomplish its promise of getting the Voter Register released, I expect, that the main opposition party to join hands with INEC towards ensuring that the Voter Register is released at a very conducive time before the election.
