Mimiko, obstacle to Jonathan’s victory in Ondo

(NIGERIA) Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress party (APC) in Ondo State and immediate past commissioner of the state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Barrister Benson Enikuomehin, yesterday described the defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a quickest way for the opposition party to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election.

Enikuomehin, who was speaking with Newswatch Times in his office in Akure, alleged that the administration of Governor Mimiko in the last six years was full of corruption which, according to him, will make people of the state to vote for the APC.

He said, “Mimiko is a great obstacle to Jonathan’s victory in Ondo State. Electorate are wiser now and they will disappoint Mimiko and Jonathan. I read of recent that Mimiko was boasting that he would get one million votes for Jonathan.

“Mimiko is only saying this to make the tempo of President Jonathan come down. The question to ask is this: During the last governorship election in Ondo State, how many votes did Mimiko gather? I was a chief returning agent for the LP and I am sure of what I say.

“Mimiko left LP to cover up his misdeeds. They ruined the party and moved to the PDP. As soon as they came, it was crisis every day. A house divided against itself, how can it stand? Attaching Mimiko’ s name to Jonathan is a disaster.”

Reacting on why he left LP, Dr. Enikuomehin said: You do not know a man until he gets to position. In Mimiko’ s first tenure, we had the hope that he was going to make changes on infrastructures but he later disappointed us.

The essence of governance is to identify what the people want and proffer solution to it. I have issue on the policy Mimiko has brought to Ondo State. Mimiko has neglected majorly people from riverside areas.”

On Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible general elections, the APC chieftain said this year elections would solidify the confidence of Nigerians in INEC.

He urged the Commission to allow the votes of Nigerians to count, stressing that: The era of electoral malpractice is gone. Nobody can intimidate Professor Jega. The Commission has tried in conducting free and fair elections in the country and we are looking forward to seeing INEC giving Nigerians the best general elections.” (NEWSWATCH TIMES)
