Mark asks politicians to focus on security

BY THE PUNCH

(NIGERIA) Senate President, David Mark, has asked the political class and all public office seekers to make service to the society, anchored on  the welfare and security of the people, the corner stone of their ambitions.

Mark, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, on Sunday, said any political ambition not anchored on that premise would hit the rocks.

The senate president, the statement added, stated this while speaking at  Igumale, Ado Local government area of Benue state on Saturday after he received the traditional title of  Ogblonekwu-Egidi ( meaning- the only tree big enough to cover the forest)

Mark’s wife, Helen, also on the occasion, was honoured with the traditional title of the Ofianya ( Meaning- a woman greater than her peers), by the the paramount ruler of Igumale land,  Ochapa of Igumale, Chief Joseph Ochili.

The senate president said,  “Service to humanity is my driving force in politics. Those looking for financial fortune in politics cannot go far because the people cannot be misled for long.

“Anybody who is not ready to sacrifice for the service of the people must quit politics.”

Mark  said the  the Chieftaincy tittles conferred on him and his wife, would spur them  to continue to render selfless service to their people diligently, honestly, fairly and with the fear of God.

He said, “As one of you, together we shall strive to continue to contribute our own quota to the overall development of Idoma  land , Benue state and the nation at large.”

He added that the decision of the people to establish a community school in the area is a welcome development because “education is an instrument through which we can extricate our people   from the shackles of ignorance, poverty,  diseases and underdevelopment.”

He expressed optimism  that with the establishment of the school,  “moral upbringing  which today appears jettisoned by our schools will be accorded a great priority.”
