(NIGERIA) No fewer than 15 persons, including women and children were yesterday reported killed in the village of Ambe-Madaki, in Sanga Local Government Area of southern part of Kaduna State.
The villagers alleged that yesterday’s attack was carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen who stormed the village around 4:00am yesterday in their numbers, shooting and setting fire to people’s houses.
The new attack is coming barely one week after 10 persons were killed in Tattaura village, in the same council, allegedly by the same Fulani herdsmen.
A resident of the community, Mr. Yohanna Adamu, who narrated their ordeal in a telephone interview with newsmen in Kaduna said the invaders were armed with sophisticated guns, adding that they arrived the village at about 4:00am yesterday and started shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze.
Adamu said several other persons sustained gunshots injuries while more than 20 houses were set ablaze.
According to him also, the incident sparked off mass protests by residents of the communities who marched to Gwantu, headquarters of Sanga Local Government, to register their displeasure over the unrestrained attacks in spite of the peace agreement signed recently by the Fulani and the natives to allow peace to reign.
According to Yohanna Adamu, save for the prompt intervention of the Special Military Task Force on security in the area, the situation would have deteriorated.
“We are surprised that despite the agreement that our communities entered with the Fulani not to attack each other, they have been attacking us.
“They came to our village at about 4:00am today (Friday) armed with sophisticated weapons and started shooting and burning houses. We have not compiled the casualty figure yet because some people are still missing, but we have 15 corpses of people who were killed already.
“This is the second time they are attacking us after we signed the agreement to live in peace. Last week, they attacked Tattaura village and killed 10 people with so many others injured.
“The communities were very angry over the killings; that is why they marched to Gwantu to protest, but the protest almost led to religious crisis. It was the intervention of the security personnel that saved the situation,” Adamu narrated.
He also said the villagers were relocating to other places for safety since they are always helpless in the face of attacks.
Adamu called on the authorities to address the situation in Southern Kaduna and Sanga Local Government Area in particular before the situation gets out of hand.
However, the spokesman of Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawan, could not be reached for comments. (NEWSWATCH TIMES)
