C’River REC cautions APC over wrong allegations

(NIGERIA) The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Dr. Okey Ezeani, on Tuesday cautioned the South-South zone of the All Progressives Congress over fallacious allegations.

The National Vice-Chairman of the South-South zone of the APC, Mr. Hilliard Eta, had on Sunday rejected the redeployment of Ezeani to Cross River on the allegation that the new REC was a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

But refuting the allegation at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Calabar shortly after taking over the mantle of leadership from his predecessor, Mr. Mike Igini, the new REC said the allegation was a fallacy, charging the media to always cross-check facts before publishing.

He said, “The accusation is a fallacy. They do not even know who I am. That information was wrong and we have contacted Hilliard Eta to retract that accusation. The media must cross-check information before going to the press.”

Ezeani said he would work with the staff of the commission as a team to achieve success in the forthcoming general elections.

Corroborating the refutation, the immediate past REC of Cross River State, Mr. Mike Igini, who has been redeployed to Edo State, said it was obvious that the APC national vice-chairman never knew Ezeani before making that accusation.

Igini said he was proud to handover the mantle of leadership to Ezeani because he is the most qualified REC to have been redeployed to Cross River State in terms of his value and quality.

He disclosed that Ezeani was recommended and appointed REC based on his over 30 years as a public servant in Washington DC, United States.

“Few days back when I heard some idle talks, I knew the accusers do not know him. I would have been sad if it was not Ezeani that took over from me. He is the most qualified in terms of value and quality. For the records, Ezeani is from Anambra State and only served as REC in Ebonyi State,” Igini said. http://www.punchng.com/news/criver-rec-cautions-apc-over-wrong-allegations/
