Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Shuai’bu Haruna, today charged persons living with disability to ensure collection of their Permanent Voter Cards so as to be able to participate in the forthcoming elections.
He made the call at a one- day voter education exercise organised for the physically challenged persons in Hadejia, Jigawa.
Mallam Haruna argued that the call became necessary to enable persons with disabilities exercise their civic rights.
According to him, the exercise was designed to educate disabled persons on their civic right.
He explained that participants were drawn from the blind, cripple and other physically challenged persons’ associations in Hadejia Senatorial District.
The DG further argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had made adequate arrangements to give support to the disabled persons and simplify their voting processes.
Responding, Chairman of the Association of Persons with Disability,
Mallam Muhammad Usman, suggested that the exercise would create awareness among their members.
He also called on his members to be law abiding during the election period.
