TERMINAL LEAVE PROPAGANDA: AN ELECTORAL UMPIRE's DENIAL

Obviously, it has been in the media for some time now, that Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega may be on his way out of office as INEC boss through a terminal leave.

But probably as a way of keeping the records straights, read with care what Jega said through his Chief Press Secretary, Kayode Idowu, who had insisted that his boss was seriously busy preparing for the smooth conduct of the 2015 elections.

"Jega is busy preparing for the elections and you are asking about terminal leave. Does anyone planning to conduct elections go on terminal leave? There is nothing like that.

"Jega’s appointment was not guided by civil service rules and would serve until the end of his tenure on June 30."

He did not stop at that, Adelusi further maintained that Jega had not resigned his appointment consequent upon pressure from the Presidency.

Hear him again, "No, that (resignation) is not true, he has not resigned. He didn’t resign. It is a mere rumour."
