Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was today called upon to hasten the distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC), as the 2015 general elections get near.
This call was made by Indigenes of the riverine communities of Bakassi,
Cross River State, with a further position that the commission should use the period of poll postponement, to fast-track the distribution of PVC to registered voters in the area.
According to a statement issued by the indigenes under the aegis of Bakassi People General Assembly through its General Secretary, Mr. Eyo Nakanda, they posited that the election postponement would give the people the opportunity to get their PVCs in preparation for exercising their fundamental rights in the forthcoming elections.
The statement reads: "Against this backdrop, we humbly appeal to INEC to ensure rapid distribution to our brothers and sisters in their respective wards in Dayspring 1 and 2 and Kwa Islands.
"We enjoin our people to pursue with relentless vigour and use this open window of extension of the elections to collect their PVCs and subsequently come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice during the elections."
