2015 ELECTIONS: WE HAVE NO DISAGREEMENT WITH INEC, NYSC INSISTS

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has refuted any disagreement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over utilisation of corps members for the conduct of the forth coming 2015 elections.

NYSC in a statement today, signed by its Director of Press, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, argued that the report was false and unfounded.

The statement stated further that contrary to a recent media report, both the NYSC and the INEC were committed to the successful conduct of the 2015 elections.

According to Aderibigbe, "The attention of the NYSC has been drawn to a news bar on AIT saying: 'NYSC, INEC disagree on use of departing Corps members for conduct of the general elections.

"Management wishes to inform the public that the report is false and misleading. Both NYSC and INEC are committed to the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections in line with the Memorandum of Understanding on their collaboration."

NYSC also explained that the engagement of the out-gone corps members for the conduct of the elections remained sacrosanct and had not changed.

NYSC also said, "Although the 2014 Batch ‘A’ Corps members were officially discharged from service last Thursday, they were still involved with the elections conduct.

"However, the 2014 Batch ‘A’ Corps members were officially discharged from service last Thursday in line with the provision of the NYSC Act, which stipulates that the service lasts for one year.

"Consequently, members of the 2014 Batch ‘A’ who have passed out but wish to participate in the election can do so on their own volition."
