ELECTIONS: INEC CHAIR TO APPEAR BEFORE SENATE TODAY

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega is today expected to appear before the Nigerian Senate, apparently to brief members of the upper legislative chambers about the Commission's readiness   for the forthcoming March 28 and April 11 elections.

The decision to make Jega appear before the Senate was sequel to a
motion by its Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba.

While moving the motion, Ndoma-Egba suggested that the INEC Chairman should come with a card reader for demonstration before the lawmakers.

Even the Senate minority leader, George Akume, posited that the service chiefs be invited since they were blamed by INEC for postponement of the elections.

However President of the Senate, David Mark declared that   summoning the service chiefs would not be necessary at the moment.

The senators consequently via through voice vote gave approval that Jega appears before the upper legislative chamber, with an addition that the presence of the service chiefs would be determined by Jega’s submission on Wednesday.
