The lower legislative chamber of the National Assembly has thrown out a motion to effect summon on Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, over the postponement of the 2015 general elections.
Specifically, the motion which was moved by Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Leo Ogor, was rejected in a voice vote at the proceedings presided over by the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.
The Deputy Majority leader had notified the lower legislative chamber that INEC postponed the elections to March 28, 2015 on the reason of security challenges, but noted that there was still the need to hear from the INEC Chairman as to whether the commission was really prepared for the elections on the rescheduled date.
In his words, "Mr. Speaker, we have to invite the INEC chairman to know how prepared they are for the elections."
