National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in charge of Ondo, Osun and Lagos States, Professor Akinola Salau, today insisted that the Smart Card Readers for authentication of voters will add value to the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the INEC Commissioner stated that the device would assist the commission to attain its wish of free and credible elections in the country.
According to him, "Card readers will add value to our electoral system. It will assist in attaining our desire to have free, fair and credible elections."
While adding that the card readers had been tested and had been found to be reliable, the
commissioner who was on a tour of the states to evaluate the state of materials and preparedness for the coming election, argued that although INEC was not 100 per cent ready, its level of preparation was enough to hold the elections.
