Edo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Samuel Adegbuyi, today warned youths in the State to refuse calls by politicians to be used as instruments of violence before, during and after the 2015 general elections.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy visit to the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin, the police chief who came in company of senior officers of the command, frowned at the level of electoral violence in the country, even as he attributed same to attitude of desperate politicians, who wanted to occupy elective positions for their personal interest.
According to him, "Politics should be devoid of thuggery and the youths shouldn’t allow themselves to be used by anybody; elections are meant to be conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.
"That is why I am going round on a familiarisation tour to work in partnership with the media and other sister agencies to ensure safety and a conducive atmosphere."
