Nyako: Impeachment panel begins sitting (NAN)

The plans to impeach the governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, and his deputy, Bala Ngilari, thickened on Monday as the seven-man panel, set up to probe allegations of misconduct against the governor and his deputy, began sitting in Yola, the state capital.

The Acting Chief Judge of the state, Ambrose Mammadi, had on Friday set up the panel to investigate the allegations against the Nyako and Ngilari as he was mandated by the state House of Assembly.

The state government had on Sunday announced a public holiday, covering  Monday and Tuesday, in the state; a move interpreted as a strategy to delay the commencement of sitting of the panel.

It was unclear what the deliberations of the committee centred on on Monday.
