Seven killed, three injured in Kogi crash



(NIGERIA) The Federal Road Safety Commission on Sunday in Lokoja confirmed the death of seven persons in a multiple road accident which occurred on the Ankpa-Anyingba road in Kogi.
The commission’s Kogi Sector Commander, Mr. Godwin Omiko who confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria, said three other persons were critically injured in the crash.
“Five of the accident victims were lucky as they escaped unhurt,’’ Omiko who spoke on telephone said.
A ROAD CRASH
He said the accident which happened late Saturday evening involved three private cars and a motorcycle.
“The cars included two Honda Accord cars, with plate numbers FCT ABJ 775 GB and Lagos GGE 715 CQ, and a Sienna LE car with plate number KNA 52 LG,’’ the FRSC official said.
Omiko said a total of 15 people were involved in the accident while those who died included five male adults and two female adults.
The Sector Commander said the injured were taken to the General Hospital at Anyingba for treatment, while the relatives of the dead ones had started coming to pick them.
Omiko said that the road, which connects states in the South-South and South-East, had been cleared of the obstruction and smooth vehicular movement restored.
He blamed the accident on wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving, and appealed to motorists to drive with caution and observe speed limit regulations. (NAN)
