Keyamo loses SANship rank bid







Frontline lawyer and human rights activist, Festus Keyamo based in Lagos, South-West Nigeria, has lost in his bid to carry the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Instead, Nigeria's Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) announced former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Dr. Olu Onagoruwa, alongside
17 lawyers as those that has just been  awarded the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

According to Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Sunday Olorundahunsi, explained that 109 lawyers applied for the rank this year, among who were three women.
Olorundahunsi posited that two out of the lucky 17 are from the academics.

According to the Registrar, "The choice of who to get the rank was taken at the LPPC’s general meeting held Friday. Listed alongside Onagoruwa, who was the AGF during the late General Sani Abacha’s regime are – Sylvanus Aghumele Ogwemoh, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (from the University of Jos), Olusola Olaseni Idowu, Dr. Ernest Mabuachi Ojukwu (Of the Nigerian Law School), Ahamefula Ikechukwu Eke Ejelam, Chike George Onyemenam, Tawo Eja Tawo and Olatunde Oluranti Adejuyigbe.

Others are: "Dr. Adewale Adedamola Olawoyin, Dr. Joshua Olukayode Olatoke, Teslim Olatunde Busari, Kelvin Chukwudi Nwufo, Dr. Amuda-Kannike Abiodun, Oluwakemi Mufutau Balogun, Hakeem Olatunde Afolabi and Gerald Godwin E. Ezeuko."

The Registrar further explained that the provision of the guidline for the award of the rank was,  "strictly adhered to this year.

"The new SANs will be inaugurated during the new legal year celebration on September 22," he added.
