FG working on new anti-terror strategies -NSA

(NIGERIA) The National Security Adviser on Monday in Abuja stated that fresh strategies had been adopted by the Federal Government to tackle all forms of insurgency including the menace of the Boko Haram Islamic sect terrorising the North-East.
He also called on security agencies to liaise with those who were in constant touch with the populace, especially stakeholders in the hotel industry, to check the security challenges in the country.
The NSA represented by the Coordinator of Counter-Terrorism in his office, Gen. Sarkinyaki Bello (retd), stated this while declaring open a two-day workshop on security consciousness & awareness for Hotel Owners, Employees and Association Executives.
The event was organized by the Special Services Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, a parastatal of The Presidency.

According to him, part of the initial steps already being taken by the government was streamlining measures in which operators in the hospitality industry could identify and expose personalities whose identities were questionable.
He said the sensitization programme was premised on the fact that Hotel operators  were in constant touch with the larger populace, adding that their collaboration would be worthwhile in tackling insurgency.
“In dealing with the menace, government has put in place institutional arrangement to encourage inter-agency intelligence collaboration for effective response. To this end, we believe that as stakeholders, the beneficiaries of the workshop should be part of the vanguard to mobilize the general public to generate awareness so that nobody is left out. They should imbibe this spirit of cooperation by providing actionable information to the security enforcement agencies”, the NSA stressed
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary (SSO), Mr. Ibrahim Mahe, represented by the Director in his office, Mr. Abdullahi Shehu, said “the insurgency started with incessant killings and deliberate damages to public property and attack on security agents, but has degenerated into armed robbery, abduction of innocent citizens and drafting women as suicide bombers.”
He said the aim of the workshop was to give the beneficiaries necessary security tips to enhance their capacity to respond to the security challenges as it is currently going on and be able to confront the situation if the occasion calls.
The workshop was also aimed at looking at the essentials of hotel management, power of observation/facial identification and reporting queer activities and their role in crime identification, reduction and reporting.
