Abduction: Conductor dragged to court
A 32 year-old bus conductor, Sunday Thomas has been dragged before Chief Magistrate A. A. Demi-Ajayi (Mrs) by detectives from the Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti, Yaba Lagos state over allegation of stealing of his neighbour's four year old daughter.
Consequently, the detectives informed the Lagos Chief Magistrate's Court, sitting in Ebute-Metta, that the bus conductor and others now at large, conspired to steal his neighbour's four year old, Favour Anani.
The court was further informed that the defendant alongside others now at large allegedly committed the offence in May 26, at their residence 8, Yahaya street, Shasha, in Alimosho local government area of Lagos State.
Part of the charge reads: "That you Sunday Thomas, and others still at large, on May 26, at about 4am, at 8, yahaya street, shasha, Lagos, in the Lagos magisterial district, did steal one Favour Anani, aged Four, and thereby commuted an offence punishable under Section 275 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011,"
Accordiing to the prosecutor, Etim Nkankuk, the alleged offences offends Sections 231 and 275 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges, leading to the presiding magistrate admitting the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000,00, with two sureties in like sum. The court also directed that the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos state government, have their addresses verified; and deposit the sum of N 25,000,00 to the designated account of the Chief Registrar of the court.
The matter has been adjourned till August 4, for mention.
