Press statement

Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN) regrets that the national conference is rounding up as a colossal failure of common sense.

A wonderful project with high hopes and great opportunity to address many national issues have been turned into a retrogressive machinery against the nation.

At a time nations of the world are articulating austere measures to cushion negative economic effects by proposing smaller governments, the national conference delegates are proposing  creation of 18 additional states leading to more and more bigger governments without any clue of how these states will be funded and on who's resource they hope to fund the new states.

It is scandalous that all the noble gestures from the populace ranging from autonomous regionalism, full resource control, population control to systems of government were all jettisoned, but rather degenerated into states creation, when only three states or less out of thirty six states in existence can survive on their own without funding from the federation account.

We believe that any national conference that draws its delegates from the fraudulent constituencies created by the colonial masters and advanced by the military cannot genuinely address the Nigerian question.

We therefore advice President Goodluck Jonathan to suspend the national conference and call for a new one that will have one ethnic group one delegate after general elections in 2015.
