(NIGERIA) The Police in Edo have arrested one Festus Aimufua over the alleged murder of a middle-aged Austria-based woman, Rose Aifuwa, at Upper Mission road by Aduwawa, in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased, who returned to the country to mark the Christmas and New Year celebration with her family, had demanded the payment of a debt running into millions of naira from the sale of goods she had imported for Aimufua, who is a spare parts dealer in Benin, the state capital.
Tragedy, however, struck when the late Rose was allegedly murdered on the eve of Christmas by the suspect, said to be her lover, at her residence located on Lucky Way in Benin, following a heated argument.
The body of the late woman was later found at Upper Mission junction with several deep cuts and bruises.
It was also learnt that the suspect had reported the incident to the Ikpoba Hill Police Division. He claimed to have killed her by accident.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Edoigiawerie, told our correspondent on the telephone that the case had been reported by a relative of the deceased and would be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department.
“A case of murder was reported by one Elvis Omokhojie, that his sister, named Rose Aifuwa, was found lying down at Upper Mission extension junction, Aduwawa in Benin City.
“We have been to the scene and taken the corpse to the mortuary.
“Our investigation led to the arrest of her lover because, according to the report, he (the suspect) was last seen with her,” the Police spokesperson said.
