(NIGERIA) The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has deployed various striking units of the Force, comprising the Police Mobile Force, Special Protection, Counter-Terrorism, Explosive Ordinance Department, Dog Section, and Mounted Troop nationwide for water-tight security for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The IG has also directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police to put in place extended police visibility and patrols in order to protect the citizens during the Yuletide.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Monday in Abuja, said the Police Air wing would carry out air surveillance patrols while the Marine Police would ensure a sustained patrol of all water ways.
“The police have put in place operational strategies to enhance security provision during the Christmas holidays and beyond,” the statement added.
The police advised operators of public facilities to be vigilant and ensure they properly screen all visitors or users of their facilities during the festive period.
The Force urged members of the public to report any suspicious movement in their areas to the Police.
Meanwhile, the IG has rejoiced with Christians nationwide as they celebrate the Christmas.
He enjoined them to practise the virtues of Jesus Christ by propagating peace, demonstrating love and forgiveness.
Similarly, he also rejoiced with all Police officers, wishing them and their families a joyful Christmas.
