(NIGERIA) A 19-year-old teenager, Tayo Ajayi, has been arraigned before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi of an Oshodi Magistrate's Court in Lagos over alleged assaulting of one Sergeant Rabiu Awalu.
The teenager who was docked by the Nigeria Police, on a two-count charge of assault, was alleged to have thrown stones at the police sergeant.
The charge reads: "That you Tayo Ajayi 'M' and others now at large on November 29, 2014 at about 1640hrs at Oshodi under bridge, Oshodi Lagos, in Ikeja Magisterial District did assault one Sergeant Rabiu Awalu 'M' by throwing stones at him as a result of which he sustained injury on his head."
According to the prosecutor, Olatunde Kehinde, the offence is punishable under Section 171 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria 2011.
But the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. This then led the court to grant him bail in the sum of N20,000.
The matter has been adjourned till January 19, 2015.
