AGF arraigns grandmother, others over alleged rape

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Justice minister, Mohammed Adoke (SAN) has docked a 64-year-old grandmother, her 27-year-old son and her son-in-law have been arraigned before Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a
Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, over alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.
The 27-year old Uchechukwu Nwambie was alleged to have raped the 14-year-old girl (name withheld), while the girl was in the custody of his mother on or about the month of September, 2010 to August 2012.
Even the grandmother, Beatrice Nwambie was charged for encouraging the seduction of the girl by her son. The son-in-law was equally alleged to have deceitfully induced the girl from Imo State to Lagos.
The suspects were docked on behalf of the National Agency for the prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP).
But they pleaded not guilty to the charge made against them by NAPTIP, leading to the presiding judge to grant them bail.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences offends Section
19 (b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law, Enforcement and Administration Act (2003) as amended, and punishable under the same section.
The matter has been adjourned till September 24, 2014 for trial.
